If you have bed bugs or are getting regularly bitten at night and haven’t identified the source, what’s the first thing that you should do to to minimize the places in your bedroom for them to hide?
The first thing you should do is get several large garbage bags and stuff most of your stuff from your bedroom into the bags. Put books, accessories, linens that aren’t on the bed, shoes you don’t use often, and anything else that’s lying around the room and isn’t used frequently. Bed bugs love to hide in things that aren’t used often.
When I first realized that I had bed bugs, the first thing I did was get several large garbage bags and stuffed most of my bedroom into them. Then I put those garbage bags in the back seat of my car that I seldom use. The car gets hot. I left those bags in the car for over 3 months.
You might not have a car to put the garbage bags into, but you can just as easily put the bags in a non-climate controlled storage unit or in an attic. This process will heat the bags and kill any eggs and live bed bugs.
By the time I retrieved the bags from the car, I noticed a lot of very small bed bugs in the books. They weren’t moving so they were definitely dead.
